Pandora Gets Vain

Pandora Gets VainPandora (a.k.a Pandy) and her friends Alcie, Iole and Homer all set out to find one of the 7 evils, vanity, but they found the first one already. So they have to go to Cleopatra (young Cleopatra, like 12 or 11), but vanity is in Cleopatra’s mirror and she will do anything to get anybody away from it. She even broke a servant’s arm just for looking in it.

This book is not about Pandora getting vain. I love when Pandora turns 67 or so, and I know what some of you are thinking, so that’s where Pandora’s box came from – well, yes, a Greek myth turned into 7 (not 1, but 7) books, one for each evil. I have all the books at home and since I love reading chapter books (this book is why I love reading so much), I’m done with all the books done since summer. I recommend this book to anyone who loves Greek myths, violence, romance, and other stuff like adventure.  Book 2 of the Pandora series.  [beviediva]

The Mark of Athena

The Mark of AthenaAnnabeth comes to Camp Jupiter and is scared to meet her boyfriend. Out of nowhere, Leo starts to fire out of his ship, the Argo II. Percy Jackson and his two friends escape to find the Mark of Athena. Percy, Jason, Hazel, Piper, Annabeth, Frank, and Leo, all demigods were chased by demigods, most importantly Octavian.

I like when Percy made Octavian shut up. I also like when Percy used the water to destroy the water tank, and when Frank became a dragon. Book 3 of The Heroes of Olympus series.  [yayo]

The House of Hades

The House of HadesThis book is so good! It tells the story from 5 of the 9 main characters’ points of view. Annabeth and Percy are trying to survive in Tartarus, while Leo, Jason, Piper, Hazel, Frank, Nico, and Coach Hedge try to reach the Doors of Death on the mortal side. Meanwhile, the Romans are preparing for war, but their praetor has to go on a mission for Annabeth. This book is filled with thrilling adventures, betrayals, and unexpected twists.

My favorite scene was when Percy and Annabeth are trying to fight Tartarus. I’m not going to say anything about what happens, because it would be a huge spoiler, but it is really good!  Book 4 of The Heroes of Olympus series.  [k9srgr8]

Son of Neptune

Son of NeptunePercy Jackson tries to get to a camp and two gordons start to chase him and an old lady says him to carry her to a camp. After Percy gets to a camp he meets two new friends and goes on a dangerous journey. Both of his friends should have died. Hazel should have died 70 years ago and Frank should have died as a child, but his life depended on a burnt stick. He still has not been claimed by the gods of Olympus. Frank Zhangs has a power he tries to figure out.

I like when Percy becomes jealous of the power Frank has because he wants the power that belongs to Poseidon. I would recommend this book people who like myths.  Book 2 of The Heroes of Olympus series.  [Whatever]

The Last Olympian

Percy Jackson and his friend Bekendorf, who are demigods, have a plan to bomb the titan lord Kronos’ ship so he can’t capture Olympus, but the plan fails and Bekendorf dies. He returns home with sad news (everyone expected great news from him). The Titan War starts, and Nico traps Percy for his father Hades because he wants to know about his past (Nico can’t remember anything before he was 8). Percy, son of Poseidon, gets help from Nick, and he bathes in the River Styx for invulnerability.

My favorite character is Percy Jackson because he shows tons of talents, like bathing in the River Styx, though he knew nobody had ever done it other than his friend Luke, son of Hermes, who came in Kronos’ team and became Kronos’ body. Percy also defeated the titans, who no hero demigod, not even Hercules, was able to deafeat.  Book 5 of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.  [Pj#1fan]

The Lost Hero

The Lost HeroJason Grace is confused, he woke up on a bus holding holding a girl’s hand he apparently doesn’t know, and he has no memory of how he got in the situation he’s in. He ends up going to a special camp called Camp-Half Blood. While he’s there he goes on a quest, battles a giant, and regains some of his memory.

This book is related to Greek and Roman mythology, so I recommend it to anyone interested in mythology.  Book 1 of The Heroes of Olympus series.  [#1 Percy Jackson fan]

The Lightning Thief

lightningthiefThis book is about a boy, Percy Jackson, and his crippled friend Grover, who is actually a satyr (half goat, half man).  They go on an adventure with their also-crippled Latin teacher, Mr. Brunner, who is not actually a Latin teacher – he teaches demigods to defend themselves from monsters that will try to kill them, and he isn’t crippled because he can’t walk, but because he is a centaur (half horse, half man).

I really love this book because I usually wonder what it would be like to live back when there were Greek animals, gods, demigods, and people, and this story just gives me a better understanding of what it was like back then. If I never read this book, I would have never watched the movie and written this rave!  Book 1 of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.  [SpaceUnicorn1234]

The Sea of Trolls

The Sea of TrollsJack is an average eleven-year-old boy in A.D. 793. That all changes when he and his sister are kidnapped and enslaved by the Berserkers.  This book was great! It started out fairly slow. You would never expect the twist that is thrown in at the end of the story. I won’t spoil it! I was completely caught off guard. This book is a must read for everyone.  [X]

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon

Where the Mountain Meets the MoonA girl named Minli wanted to meet a man called The Old Man of the Moon to ask how to change her family’s poor fortune. On her way to Never Ending Mountain where he lives, she meets some good friends and a flightless dragon, too.

I loved this book. Maybe it’s my new favorite. It’s filled with great details. Once you start to read, you can’t stop – you just want to know what happens next! The dragon wants to learn how to fly and Minli wants to change her parents’ poor fortune. When she found the Old Man of the Moon, she could only ask one question  [Joyful 44B]

Pyramids and Mummies

pyramidsandmummiesThe Egyptians believed they lived in the best land in the world. They believed the spirit could live forever if the body was mummified. My favorite section was about making a mummy. I also liked how they dressed the dead. The book was interesting because it had a lot of pictures. Someone who likes history would also like this book. Also, one of the most interesting parts of the book was about the animal mummies.  [Mexican lover]

The Odyssey

The OdysseyThis is a graphic novel version of the Odyssey.  Odyesseus, a Greek hero, runs into a lot of trouble coming home from the Trojan War, including cyclopses, tidal waves, and evil nymphs.  He also has problems when he returns home after many  years of being away.

I thought this book was good.  The illustrations were really lifelike and detailed.  I especially liked how the author outlined the gods in color.  You could tell who was a god in disguise because of this outlining.  I haven’t read the real version, so I can’t say how accurate it is, but it was a great read.  [pinkfairy123]

Tales from the Odyssey: The One-Eyed Giant

Tales from the Odyssey: The One-Eyed GiantOdysseus is coming home after the Trojan war. He stumbles upon an island full of cyclopses. They become trapped. They blind Polyphemus and escape.

I liked it because it talks about my favorite part of the Odyssey. It talks about monsters, heroes, etc. It’s cool. I didn’t like that the front cover of the book is so weird. It surprised me to see that this version is different than the others I’ve read. It made me laugh to see how dumb the cyclops was because Odysseus blinded him.  [Gegarth 34]

The Land of the Dead

The Land of the DeadOdysseus and his men are back. Their curse follows them at every turn. They must travel to the Land of the Dead. They meet giant cannibals, who almost rip them limb from limb, and then go to a beautiful witch. They defeat her and learn of their next  challenge.  This book had a lot of good twists and turns with very epic characters.  I would recommend this book to other people.  P.S. I loved it!  Book 2 of the Tales of the Odyssey series.  [LccL41cllc1A]

The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

The AlchemystHave you ever heard of Nicholas Flamel? Well, the “myth” is true! Flamel is fighting evil creatures, and trying to find “gold and silver auras” to save the world from the evils of the dark gods. I think this book is very good and that every one should read it! I’ve read other books in the series too like The Magician, The Sorceress, and The Necromancer.  You should check them out, they were all good!  [Leo Messi]

The Fire Thief

The Fire ThiefThis book alternates between the times of Greek mythology and the 1800’s.  The main characters are Prometheus (the fire thief), Jim, the orphan robber, and Uncle Edward, the talkative robber.  Uncle Edward can talk his way into houses and talk other people out of being hung.  Towards the end, Uncle Edward escapes death.

The narrator keeps talking about how he wants to be a writer and also refers to modern technology, denying that moving, talking pictures are possible.  Read this book to see how fire, Greek mythology, robbing, and re-deaths are connected.  [Zebra Stripes37]

The Titan’s Curse

The Titan's CursePercy joins his friends on a quest to save Annabeth and the goddess Artemis. They fight skeletons, gods, and a boar? What else could go wrong?

So far, this is the most unique book in the Percy Jackson series. There’s still no real new aspect of fantasy from this book. It’s still enjoyable though.  Book 3 of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.  [DarkFaerie]

Snakehead

snakehead_110The Medusa. The myth of it all. A brave hero, a beautiful princess and whatever you expect. Yes, this is the greatest myth of the Medusa, from the journy to the garden all the way to Haifia. It includes many of Perseus’ god family members, along with magical creatures like Pegasus. It is the best myth put into this book for everyone to enjoy!  [Maryknoll]
